Geometric Figures
MTH 005 Chapter 3 Geometric Figures & Terms
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Pythagorean Theorem | A triangle is a right triangle if and only if the Sum of the legs squared (leg squared + leg squared) = Hypotenuse squared |
Sum of the angles of any triangle | 180 degrees |
Complementary Angles | Two angles whose sum is 90 degrees; represent the angle & its Complement as x and 90 - x |
Supplementary Angles | Two angles whose sum is 180 degrees; represent the angle & its Supplement as x and 180 - x |
Perimeter of a Rectangle | The distance around the Rectangle Formula: P = 2L + 2W. Represent both length & width in terms of the same variable; make substitutions & solve for the unknown numbers. |
Isosceles Triangle | A triangle with at least 2 angles that are equal |
Obtuse Triangle | A triangle with one angle that is greater than 90 degrees |
Similar Triangles | Corresponding sides are proportional and corresponding angles are equal |
Rectangle | Parallelogram with one angle that is a right angle |
Parallelogram | Quadrilateral whose opposite sides are parallel |
Trapezoid | Four-sided figure with exactly one pair of parallel sides |
Quadrilateral | Four-sided figure in a plane |
Right triangle | A triangle with one angle that is a right angle (90 degrees) |
