Prerequisite Vocabulary for 6th Math

QuestionAnswer
composite number a number greater than one that has more than two factors
denominator the number below the bar in a fraction: the part of the fraction that tells how many parts are in a whole
difference the solution to a subtraction problem
evaluate to calculate the answer to an expression or equation
fraction a number that represents part of a whole or part of a set
horizontal a line that runs left to right/side to side
median the middle number when data is arranged in numerical order
mode the number most repeated in a set of data
multiple the product of the whole number and any whole number
numerator the number above the bar in a fraction; the part of the fraction that tells how many of the equal parts are being used
prime number a whole number that has exactly two unique factors, 1 and the number itself
product the solution to a multiplication problem
quotient the solution to a division problem
range difference between the greater and least pieces of data
reasonableness showing reason or sound judgement; a sensible choice
sum the solution to an additon problem
venn diagram overlapping circles used to organize data into categories where some information may overlap
vertical a line that runs up and down
