Vocabulary for Real Numbers

QuestionAnswer
exponent in a power, the number of times the base is used as a factor.
integer a whole number or its opposite.
irrational numbers numbers whose decimal form is non-terminating and do not have a pattern.
powers numbers written using exponents.
Radical a number that contains the symbol indicating that a square root should be performed (√).
ratio the comparison of two numbers that can be written in various ways.
real numbers all the numbers on the continuous number line with no gaps.
scientific notation a way of expressing numbers as the product of a number that is at least 1 but less than 10 and a power of 10.
square root one of the two equal factors of a number. “What number multiplied by itself gives me this number?”
standard form describes a numerical value written out with no exponents.
