| Alliteration | the repetition of consonant sounds |
| Dramatic Irony | Irony that is understood by the audience but not the characters. |
| Figurative language | writings that don't have a literal meaning but an imaginative meaning i.e. Similes and Metaphors |
| Foreshadowing | When the author suggests plot events that may come later in the story. |
| Hyperbole | produces irony in the deliberate exaggeration or overstatement |
| Imagery | the sensory detail or figurative language used to describe abstraction |
| Irony/ironic | the difference between what appears to be and what actually is true |
| Metaphor | a figure of speech using two unlike thing and making them similar |
| Mood | deals with the verbal parts and the speaker's attitude, and also is used for a doubtful or conditional attitude |
| Onomatopoeia | a figure of speech in which natural sounds are put into words "BAM!" |
| Personification | where an object or concept is given human-like qualities |
| Rhythm | Timing of beats |
| Simile | a comparison, using like, as, or if |
| Theme | the central ideal of the piece of work |
