| Alliteration | the repetition of initial consonant sounds. Alliteration is used to create melody,establish mood,and call attention to certain words. |
| Allusion | an inderect reference to aperson,thing event situation,or aspect of culture real or fictional,past or present.An allusion may draw from literature,myth,history,or the Bible. |
| Aside | a remark spoken in an unertone by one charachter either to the audience or to another character which remaining characters do not hear. |
| Chorus | a single actor who recites the prologue |
| Couplet | any two line stanza that contains a complete thought;couplets are usally rhymed. |
| Foil | a character who provides a striking contrast to a main character,thus calling attention to certain traits of the main character. |
| Foreshadowing | the technique of proving the reader or viewer with hits,clues,or indications about the futer action of a story or play;prepares the reader for what is to come and helps him/her to anticipate the outcome. |
