Confucianism idea promoted by Confucius which taught that people needed to have a sense of duty to their families and government in order to have peace in society
Daoism idea based on the teachings of Laozi which taught that people should give up their worldly desires and turn to nature
Legalism idea taught by Hanfeizi who believed that society needed a system of harsh laws and strict punishment in order to bring about stability and peace in society
merchant a person who buys and sells (or trades) goods for a living
Silk Road An ancient network of land and sea trade routes connecting China with Europe, allowing merchants to exchange luxury goods, such as silk, along with new ideas and technologies.
Great Wall of China A massive, thousands-of-miles-long series of walls and fortifications built over many centuries to protect Chinese empires from invasions.
Terracotta Warriors A collection of over 8,000 life-sized clay soldiers (discovered in 1974) buried over 2,000 years ago to protect China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, in the afterlife.
