| rebuttal speech | speech that rebuilds arguments that have been attacked refutes opposition arguments and summaries the debate. Rebuttals are given at the end of a debate |

| Limcoln-Douglas debate | form of value debate that involves two participants. Emphasis is on persuasion and analysis as opposed to evidence |
| standard debate | form of debate in which there are constructive and rebuttal speechs but no question periods |
| negative block | second negative constructive followed by first negative rebuttal, amounting to 12-15 minutes of uninterrupted negative speeches |
| novice debater | beginner debater |
| preparation time | time between speechs that is used to get ready to speak |
| topicallity | issue of whether the affirmative plan falls under and supports the resolution |
| solvency | ability of a plan to solve a problem or bring about an advantage |
| voting issues | arguments that the affirmative or negative teams believe are the key issues in a debate and that should decide who wins the debate |
