protagonist The main character in a story
antagonist The person or thing that causes a conflict for the protagonist
point of view The position from which the story is told
first person the narrator tells the story using the pronouns I and me
third person the narrator is outside the story and uses pronouns such as he, she and they
omniscient the narrator sees all things and knows what all charaters are thinking
conflict the struggle between two opposing forces. there are 6 types of this
person vs person conflict between two people
person vs self inner struggle within a character
person vs nature humans are trying to survive in nature
person vs supernatural between humans and ghosts
person vs machine between humans and their creations
person vs society between humans and their beliefs or the demands of society
irony when something unexpected happens; a wierd twist
foreshadowing hints of what is to come
plot the main action that is happening who did what to whom. it is th arragment of that incidents and has a sequence of events
atmosphere The tone or how the author wants the reader to feel
characters who is the protagonist and the antagonist are
theme what the central meaning of the story is
setting where the story takes place
Genre A type or category of writing
Exposition The beginning of the story where the characters and setting are introduced
Rising Action The action of the story that leads up the the main conflict
Climax The main conflict or turning point in a story
Falling Action The action leading up to the conflict being solved
Resolution How the conflict was solved and the story ended
