First Quarter Literature terms 7th Englsih

QuestionAnswer
Genre A type or category of literature
Metaphor A comparison of two things that have some quality in common(i.e. The room was a pig sty - The room was messy and is being compared to the living quartersof a pig.
Nonfiction Writing that tells about real people, places and events.
Personification Giving human qualities to an animal, odject, or idea(i.e. The tree whispered in the wind.)
Simile The comparison of two things that have some quality in common using the words like or as(i.e. He was as tall as a mountain.)
Symbol A person, place, or object that stands for something beyond itsel(i.e. The bald eagle is a symbol of the United States, or the color white symbolizes purity and innocence.
Tone The writer's attitude toward what they are writing about.
Fact A peice of information that can be proven or verified
Opinion A personal point of veiw
1st Person Point of Veiw Literature written as if the author is the main character. The author uses "I" to describe events.
