mass is the measure of amount of matter that an object contains
properties characteristics and behavior of matter including the changes that matter undergoes
scientific model a thinking devise that helps you understand and explain macroscopic observation
qualitative what matter is made of
quantitative measurement of the building blocks of matter
substance matter with the same fixed composition and properties
mixture combination of two or more substances in which the basic identity of each substance is not changed
physical change a change in matter that does not involve a change in the identity of individual substances
physical properties characteristics that a sample of matter exhibits without any changes in it's identity
alloys solid solutions that contain different metals and sometimes nonmetallic substances
solution a homogeneous mixture that is the same throughout; made of a solvent and a solute
solvent the substance that dissolves the solute when making a solution
solute substance that is being dissolved in the solvent to make a solution
aqueous solution a solution in which the solvent is water
element the simplest form of matter; substancet that cannot be broken down into simpler forms and retain its properties.
compound a chemical combination of two or more different elements joined together in a fixed proportion
formula a combination of the chemical symbols that show which elements make up a compound and the number of atoms of each element
