Number Properties

Commutative, Associative, Distributive, Identity, Inverse

Commutative Property Change Order: a + b = b + a c*d = d*c 4 + 6 = 6 + 4
Associative Property Always Same: Think moving cheeks. a+(b+c) = (a+b)+c (7+3)+5 = 7+(3+5) (c*d)*e = c*(d*e)
Inverse Property Opposite! (a) + (-a) = 0 1/a * a/1 = 1 8 + (-8) = 0 1/9 * 9/1 = 1
Distributive Property Distribute a number through a parenthesis. -Watch for negatives! The sign always goes with the number behind it! a(b+c) = ab + ac
Identity Property No one can change you! a + 0 = a a*1 = a 4 + 0 = 4 31 * 1 = 31
