Extensive Property Depends on the amount of the matter in a sample
Intensive Property Depends on the type of matter in a sample;not amount
List the sates of matter Solid, liquid, gas and vapor(gaseous state of a substance)
Physical Change Some properties of the material change but not the composition
Chemical Change Change that produces something with a different composition that the original matter
List the two types of mixtures Heterogeneous and Homogeneous
Heterogeneous Mixture Mixture that is not uniform throughout
Homogeneous Mixture Mixture that is uniform throughout
What does filtration do? Seperates solid from a liquid in a heterogeneous mixture
What happens during distillation? Liquid is boiled to produce a vapor that condenses into a liquid
What makes up a compound? Element
What is an element? Simplest form of matter with unique properties
What is a compound? Contains two or more elements chemically combined in a fixed proportion
What four things tell you a chemical reaction has taken place? Change in color, gas forms, precipitate forms, and energy is produced
What does the law of conservation of mass state? In any physical change or chemical reaction, mass is conserved
With the conservation of mass it is neither blank or blank? created or destroyed
