Drama Terms

QuestionAnswer
Aside In drama, a few words or a short passage spoken by one character to the audience while the other actors on stage pretend their characters cannot hear the speaker's words.
Dialogue The lines spoken by a character or characters, especially a conversation between two characters.
Monologue A long speech by one character to another.
Soliloquy A long speech given by a character when alone on stage that reveals feelings and emotions.
Stage Directions Part of the printed text in a play that is not actually spoken by actors on stage, but which instead indicates actions or activity for the actors to engage in.
Comedy A play which often has a humorous resolution to the conflict.
Tragedy A play which often ends in the destruction on the main character.
Character foils Characters who are opposite in order to contrast one another.
Drama A piece of literatute that was intended to be performed on a stage in front of an audience.
