motion change in position in a certain amount of time
frame of reference the background or point that is stationary; compare to describe motion between objects
kinematics study of how things move
dynamic why does something move
statics when objects are at rest and unchanging; equilibrium
linear motion moving in a straight line
angular motion an object moving in a circular motion
periodic motion repeating motion
speed rate which an object moves; speed=distance/time
constant speed speed that does not change
average speed dividing the total distance to the total time
instantaneous speed the speed an objects has for a certain amount of time in a certain point in time
displacement the distance from when an object starts and stops; displacement= final position - starting position
velocity speed in a given direction
average velocity displacement divided by time interval
Acceleration a change in rate of velocity; (final velocity - start velocity)/time
Deceleration when acceleration is negative
momentum the mass of an object times its velocity
impulse describe a time change of momentum
conservation of momentum an object's momentum is changed due to an outside force
angular momentum an object moving around a fixed point
