Chemistry vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Cation An atom that loses one or more electrons
Anion An atom that gains one or more electrons becomes a negatively charged ion
Ionic Bond When two ions of opposite charges are brought together an ionic bond results from the force of attraction between the cation and anion.
Covalent Bond the result of the force of attraction between two atoms that share one or more pairs of electrons.
Electronegativity A measure an atom’s attraction for the electrons it shares with another atom in a chemical bond.
Most electo- Negative element Florine
Most electro- positive element Cesium
Molecular Compound all bonds are covalent
