Telling Time Vocab

QuestionAnswer
Hour hand The short hand on an analog clock; points to the hour
Minute hand The long hand on an analog clock; points to the minutes past the hour
Analog clock A clock with a minute hand, hour hand, and numbers around.
Digital clock A clock that shows the time with the hour and minutes separated by a colon (:).
O'clock A phrase said when telling the time on the hour.
Half past A phrase said when it is 30 minutes past an hour; the minute hand is on the 6.
Quarter to A phrase said when it is 45 minutes past an hour and 15 minutes until the next hour; the minute hand is on the 9.
Quarter after A phrase said when it is 15 minutes past an hour; the minute hand is on the 3.
Noon 12:00 p.m.
Midnight 12:00 a.m.
Dawn a.m. when the sun rises
Dusk p.m. when the sun sets
Evening p.m.
