Why are the people of the state so happy that Jefferson Smith has become Senator? he was from the people & not just a crooked politica;n 30 yrs old boy scout; respectable but not rich
What does Mr. Smith do when he first arrives in Washington D.C.? goes sightseeing
What nickname does Saunders give him? Boy Ranger & Daniel Boone
Why does Mr. Smith want to visit Mt. Vernon before his first day as Senator? visit Washington's home before starting term to "put him in the mood"
How does the press change Mr. Smith's words from his 1st press conference? Examples? take photos & make him look foolish--making bird calls--twist his words

What does Taylor's group do to the members of the boy's club? takes all their papers & stops their printing process--uses force to prevent boys form getting papers out--run kids off road w/ car--run over wagon--spray w/ waterhose--towed those supporting Payne

List the 1st 4 steps for a bill becoming a law 1--bill is introduced in the House 2--the Speaker of the House sends the bill to the proper committee to be discussed & debated 3--discussed & debated on the floor of the House 4--introduced by the Clerk of the Senate, printed, & given a title & number
the Clerk of the House reads the Bill's title & numbers & have it printed up bill is introduced in the House
once a bill is discussed & debated on the floor of the House--the House can: this committed can amend, rewrite, or approve the bill--if approve the bill is placed on the House Calendar
return it to the committee for revisions--approve it & send it to the senate discussed & debated on the floor of the house
committe may amend, rewrite, or kill a bill--if full committee approves the bill it is placed on the Senate Calander for discussion presiding officer of hte Senate sends teh bill to the proper committee
when the bill is sent to the floor to be discussed & debated, the Senate can: 1--send it back to the committe for further revision 2--approve it 3--if the senate passes a different version than the House approved, it is sent to a conference committee
if the bill is passed & sent to the president, he can: 1--sign it & make it into law 2--refuse to sign the bill & list reasons fo the veto 33--leaves it on his deask for 10 days--if Congress is is session it will become law--if out it is pocket vetoed

what are the limits on the power of Congress? can not: 1--pass ex post facto laws--2--tax exports--3--pass alws taht violate the Bill of Right--4--show favortism to states or discriminate against states for commercial or money distribution--5--grant titles of nobility--6--spend U.S. money w/out ap bi
