Rhetorical Devices

QuestionAnswer
Analogy Reasoning, arguing, or comparing point-by-point; a comparison in which different items are compared; formal analogies are compared in this manner: a:b::c:d. This is read, a is to b as c is to d.
Hyperbole Exaggeration for emphasis or for rhetorical effect.
Litotes Understatement, for intensification, by denying the contrary of the thing being affirmed. (Sometimes used synonymously with meiosis.) "War is not healthy for children and other living things."
Rhetorical Question A trope in which one asks a leading question.
