powhiri is? the ritual of encounter , formal welcoming ceremoney of the maori
wero / taki is the? challenge. wero literallly means to cast a spear. the taki is a leaf carved into a leaf or spear.
what is a karanga. call. manuhiri will hear this first indicating whether to move onto the marae atea.
what is a marae atea grassed area out the front of the marae.
what are the 4 procedures when you come to the wharenui? remove shoes. move to right , opposite hosts. take seats when advised to by hosts. men are seated infront, women and children behind.
whaikorero formal oratory speech made by men.
waiata song - should be appropriate for occasion.
koha gift. an example of aroha.traditionally made in form of kai. although taonga was used sometimes aswell.
hongi. a traditional maori custom where two pepole press their noses against each other. between host and visitor.
