Physics Quiz

QuestionAnswer
Physics The branch of science that deals with the interaction of matter, motion, energy and forces
Energy The ability to do work or cause change
Work A force applied over a distance W=fxd
Law of Conservation of Energy Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it may change from one form to another or transfer from one object to another, but the total amount of energy never changes
General Forms of Energy (MENCH) Mechanical, Electromagnetic, Nuclear, Chemical, Heat
Chemical Energy ) Energy associated with forming or breaking chemical bonds (Foods and Fuels)
Nuclear Energy Associated with the strong forces holding the nucleus of the atom together
Fission The process of an atoms nucleus splitting into smaller nuclei
Fusion The process of 2 small nuclei joining together to form a single, larger nucleus
Mechanical Energy Associated with objects in motion (kinetic energy)
Heat Energy Associated with the motions of atoms and/or molecules
Electromagnetic Energy Associated with moving electric charges
Potential Energy Energy that's not causing change right now but is being stored for later use
Kinetic Energy Energy a moving object has because of its mass and velocity
GPE-Gravitational Potential Energy Energy possessed by an object because of its mass and height above the earth's surface
Chemical Potential Energy Stored in chemical bond
Elastic Potential Energy Stored in stretched materials
GPE - mass x gravity x height
Kinetic Energy - E(k)=mv2/2 or E(k)=1/2(mv2)
Mass is kilograms (kg)
Distance in meters (m)
Time in seconds (s)
Acceleration(earth)to gravity = 9.8m/s2
Motion An objects change in position over time relative to an agreed upon reference point
Speed Distance travelled in a given time (meters divided by seconds)
Velocity Speed in a specific direction
Acceleration Any change in speed or direction
Acceleration- /_\ V/time - /_\ means "change in"
GPE= Joules (J)
Mass= Kilograms (Kg)
Time= Seconds (S)
Velocity= m/s
Force= Newton (N) 1 kg = 9.8N
Acceleration= m/s2
Kinetic Energy= Joules

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
