| Valence Electron | An electron in the outermost energy level of an atom, electrons involved in chemical bonding. |
| Ionic Bond | Type of bond formed when valence electrons are transfered from one atom to another. |
| Ion | Charged particles that form from gaining or losing electrons. |
| Organic Compound | Compounds that contain carbon. |
| Covalent Bond | A type of chemical bond where atoms share electrons. |
| Molecule | A covalently bonded particle, atoms joined in a definite ratio. |
| Diatomic Element | Elements that can not be found in nature as a single atom, but must be joined with another atom of its kind. |
| Metallic Bond | A type of bond formed by the attraction between positevly charged metal ions and the electrons around the ions. |
| Amino Acid | Small molecules that build proteins. |
