Real Number System

Vocabulary Terms for the real number system

QuestionAnswer
REAL NUMBERS The collection of all rational and irrational numbers.
NATURAL NUMBERS The collection of numbers ranging from 1 to infinity.
RATIONAL NUMBERS Any number that can be written as a fraction or whose decimal expansion either terminates or repeats.
IRRATIONAL NUMBERS Any number that cannot be written as a fraction or whose decimal expansion does not terminate nor repeat.
INTEGERS The collection of numbers that includes whole numbers and their negatives.
WHOLE NUMBERS The collection of numbers that range from 0 to infinity.
Exponents An exponent is a number that tells how many times a factor is repeated in a product.
