| Comedy | agenre of literature that strives to amuse or be humorous; contains a comic protagonist who is threatened with a disturbance to their world such as a loss of freedom or separation, has to overcome obstacles to return life normal, has a happy ending |
| Tragedy | a genre of literature where the protagonist is trapped in a situation which brings about disaster, usually have a main character who is essentially good and worthy, but who possesses a tragic flaw which brings their downfall, & an unhappy ending |
| irony | a genre of literature which is used to criticize human weakness in order to improve it. |
| satire | a genre of literature which is used to criticize human weakness through the use of humor or wit.Satire pokes fun at human weakness in order to improve society |
| Romance | a genre of literature which is attempts to entertain through adventure. Romance usually has a protagonist with special powers or ability, an easliy recognizable villain, an action packed plot heroic events and an exotic location |
| protagonist | the main character in a story.(The antagonist is the opposite of the protagonist and is oftern in conflict with the protagonist) |
| Tragic flaw | a weakness or fault in a tragic protagonist's character which brings about the downfall. |

| verbal irony | when you say one thing but you really mean something else |
