angle of rotation the angle formed by rays drawn from center of rotation to a point and its image
center of rotation see rotation
center of symmetry see rotational symmetry
component form the form of a vector that combines the horizontal and vertical components of a vector
composition of transformation the result when two or more transformations are combined to produce a single transformation
dimensions the number of rows and columns in the matrix; if matrix row has m rows and n columns, the dimensions of the matrix are m x n
element a number in a matrix
glide reflection a transformation in which every point P is mapped to a point P"by the following steps; (1) A translation maps P to P'; (2) A reflection in a line k parallel to the direction of the translation maps P' to P"
horizontal component the horizontal change from the initial point to the terminal point of a vector
image the new figure that is produced in a transformation
initial point the starting point of a vector
isometry a transformation that preserves length and angle measure
line of reflection see reflection
line of symmetry see line symmetry
line symmetry a figure in the plane has line symmetry if the figure can be mapped onto itself by a reflection in a line; this line of reflection is a line of symmetry
matrix a rectangular arrangement of numbers in rows in columns
preimage the original figure in a transformation
rotational symmetry a figure in the plane has rotational symmetry if the figure an be mapped onto itself by a rotation of 180 degrees or less about the center of the figure; this point is the center of symmetry
scalar multiplication the process of multiplying each element of a matrix by a real number or scalar
terminal point the ending point of a vector
vector a quantity that has both direction and magnitude, and is represented in the coordinate plane by an arrow drawn from one point to another
vertical component the vertical change from the initial point to the terminal point of a vector
