What happened in the Opium Wars? Who won? What were the results? British were importing Opium(highly addictive drug) to China. China was against it. When they blockaded Guangzhou, Britain used force. Britain won. Everyone was hooked on Opium in China.
What are three things that come from the treaty of Nanjing? Agreed to open five coastal ports to British trade, limit taxes on imported British goods, and pay for the costs of the war.
Why did the Tai Ping Rebellion happen? What kind of country did they want? Failure of Chinese government, peasants revolted along with leader Hong Xiuquan. Having equal rights with mean and women, women in army, giving land to peasants.
How many people died in the Tai Ping Rebellion? How long did it last? 25,000 people, 10 years.
What were the 100 Days of Reform? How was it stopped? Major educational, political, and administrative reforms. Empress Dowager ended it.
What was the Open Door Policy? Who started it? Helped Chinese use Western modernism while also using their same morals as well; John Hay.
Who were the boxers in the Boxer Rebellion? What did they do? HOw were they stopped? Society of Harmonious Fists. Practiced a system of excercize (shadow boxing) that they thought would protect them from bullets. Allie army attacked boxers.
What problem did Sun Yat-Sen and the nationalists have with foreigners in China? They were awkward because of how they didn't think China could survive with such decaying society.
After Sun puts Yuan in control of China, what happens? How does Sun try to fix it? Where does Sun end up? Controlled army, no political or social order occurred. Rebellion failed, and Sun fled to Japan.
How did Western culture impact China after 1900? Relate the idea of individual with the idea of family. It flourished the society and made it more modern. It became as better as western society in 1800.
What were two reasons Perry went to Japan for the first time? To become a better leader, and to know how to control better.
What was the Meji Restoration? Reform of Education, industry, and military in Japan (Japan's industrial revolution)
What constitution was the first Japanese constitution modeled after? Germany's constitution.
During the Meji Restoration, how did Japan's education, military, and women's rights policies change? Education is universal, military is stronger, and women's rights are increased.

Who joins to help Serbia? Who joins to help AH? Why does England join? Russia helps Serbia, Germany helps Austria-Hungary, and Great Britain joins because Germany violated Belgium neutrality.
What did "Home by Christmas" mean? The soldiers would be back home by Christmas time.
Describe Trench Warfare and no man's land? Trench Warfare is when both side fight in their own trenches covered with bob wire. No man's land was in between the trenches.
Who does Germany fight on its two front war? France and Russia.
Who switches sides in WW1? Italy.
What were the first airplanes in war used for? How did they fight each other in the air. They used them for spying, and by machine guns.
How did submarines cause the US to join WW1? Because of unrestricted submarine warfare.
How does the Defence of Realm Act show how rights were limited in WW1? It allowed government arrest protestors.
Why do most Western countries give women the right to vote after WW1? What did the women do to earn this right? Because they were allowed to fight in the war.
Why did the Czar's wife listen to Rasputin? Given influence over her.
How was the March Revolution different from Bloody Sunday? Increased government power.
When Lenin is captured in Germany, what does the army do with him? Why? Red= Communists.
