What is meant by specific defense? Purpose is to comprise a specific defense measure against a pathogen; 2nd type of defense system within the body
Give examples of "barrier defense" skin and tears
What is the role of phagocytic lerkocytes?
What is the role of the lymphatic system? Production and transport of lenkocytes traps foreign intruders
How does the lymphatic system aid in immunity? It absorbs excess fluid and returns it to the blood stream
Outline the significant steps that occur during an inflammatory response? Release chemical signals; capillaries dilate; increases temperature
What is an antigen? Substance or molecule that when introduced into the body triggers the production of the antibody, by the immune system which will then kill or neutralized the antigen that is recognized as harmful
B Lymphocytes Make antibodies against antigens; Perform the role of antigen-presenting cells (APCs); Develop into memory B cells that remember the same pathogen faster antibody production becomes a plama cell when a T body
T Lymphocytes Assist WBC in processes reduce immune responses; attack, learn, and remember pathogens hiding
What is the role of MHC? MHC proteins carry pieces to cell surface
What is the role of cytotoxic T cells and describes their mechanism of action? Destroy infected cells and tumor cells; can be inactivated to an anergic state, which prevent autoimmune diseases
