Angles and Polygons; Terms

Point Exact position or location on a plane or line
Line No beginning or end point
Ray Straight line that begins at a certain point and extends forever in one direction
Line Segment A part of a straight line that does not extend forever but has two distinct endpoints
Right angle Exactly 90 degrees
Acute angle Less than 90 degrees
Obtuse angle Between 90 and 180 degrees
Straight angle Exactly 180 degrees
Vertical angles Opposite angles formed by the intersection of two lines
Congruent angles Angles with the same measure
Complementary angles Sum of angles is 90 degrees
Supplementary angles Sum of angles is 180 degrees
Acute triangle A triangle that has all acute angles
Right triangle A triangle that has one right angle
Obtuse triangle A triangle that has one obtuse angle
Scalene triangle A triangle with no congruent sides
Isosceles triangle A triangle with at least 2 congruent sides
Equilateral triangle A triangle with all sides congruent
Quadrilateral A figure with four sides and four angles
Similar figures Figures that have the same shape but not the same size
Congruent figures Figures that have the same size and shape
