temperature the average kinetic energy of the particles in a material

boiling point when vapor pressure equals pressure exerted on the surface of a liquid
Joule the SI unit of energy required to lift a 1kg mass 1m against the force of gravity
heat of vaporization the energy absorbed when 1kg of a liquid vaporizes at its boiling point
melting point the temperature of a solid when its crystal lattice begins to disintegrate
freezing point the temperature of a liquid when it begins to form a crystal lattice and becomes a solid
heat of fusion the energy released as 1kg of a substance solidifies at its freezing point
