Figurative Language 2 - KCA

QuestionAnswer
Idioms an expression whose meaning is different from its literal meaning
Imagery descriptive language that appeals to one or more of the five senses
Irony a contrast or discrepancy between what is expected and what actually happens
Metaphor a figure of speech that makes a comparison between two seemingly unlike things
Mood the emotional quality of a literary work
Onomatopoeia the use of a word or phrase that imitates or suggest that sound of what it describes
Overstatement exaggeration
Paradox a situation or statement that appears to be contradictory but is actually true either in fact or in a figurative sense
