conflict a struggle or clash between to opposing characters or forces
internal conflict takes place within a character's mind. It is a decision or struggle between opposing needs/desires/emotions
person vs. self only internal conflict. Emily isn't sure whether or not she should take the money from her Sunday service box. Conflicts: it would be wrong to take money for church. vs Emily wanting to be Lottie's friend..
external conflict a conflict between a character and an outside force
person vs. person Ex. Miss Orville takes Roger's toys away, the boy in stolen day's family laughs at him for think he has inflamatory resperation
person vs. society definition. Someone is going against what their culture or society thinks is right. Ex. Emily and Lottie shoplift at stores, the boy in Stolen Day lies about his illness, Miss Orville is going against the rules of the class,
person vs. nature Ex. In Bad Character, emily and lottie can not play outside because of the weather, the boy in girls is sweating on the popcorn at the movies, Schatz is sick and must stay in bed
person vs supernatural/unknown Ex. the boggart is playing tricks on a family
person vs machine the computer begins to control the event of a family's life
plot A series of related events that make up a story
introduction also called exposition, tells about the setting and characters
rising action presents the conflict and explains how the character struggles with it
climax the most emotional or suspenseful part of the story. this is when the conflict is at its worst( when the outcome is decided one way or another
falling action tells what happens as a result of the character's solution to the conflict
resolution the loose ends of the story are tied up, this is not always present in a story, or it may be incomplete especially if their is a series/sequal
what is a confidante character from bad character's and a definition someone in whom the central character confides, thus revealing the main character's personality, thought, and intentions. The confidante does not need to be a person. ex. muff
flat character a character that reveals only one maybe two personality traits in a story or novel and the traits do not change.

foil a character that is used to enhance another character through contrast. Cinderella's grace and beauty as opposed to her nasty, self-centered stepsisters is one clear illustration example. lottie jump and virgil
round character a well-developed character who demonstrates varied and sometimes contradictory trait, ROund characters are usually dynamic ex. emily
stock character a special kind of flat character who is instantly recognizable to most readers.they are not focus nor developed in the story ex. Mr Bellamy (security guard), Jack, boy in stolen day
