What is Chemistry? Chemistry is the field of study concerned with the characteristics, composition and transformations of matter.
What is matter? Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.
Three physical states of matter? Solid, liquid and gas.
Two properties of matter? Physical matter and chemical matter.
What is physical matter? Physical matter is a characteristic of a substance that can be observed without changing the basic identity of the substance.
What is chemical matter? Chemical matter is a characteristic of a substance that describes the way the substance undergoes or resists change to form a new substance.
Two changes in matter? Physical change and chemical change.
What is a physical change in matter? A physical change is a process in which a substance changes is physical appearance but not is chemical composition. Eg. Melting, freezing, evaporation and condensation are all changes of state.
