| Exigence | The thing that causes the authpr/speaker to make the argument. What need,lack,or issue does the author seem compelled to adress? What "told" this person to write/speak? |

| Pathos [Greek= suffering, feeling] | an appeal to the audiences' emotions. any argument meantt to inspire pity, anger, desire, excitement, or any other emotion is using the pathetic appeal. |
| Logos [Greek= word, speech, study] | an appeal to the audiences' logical, rational, reasonable side. Logic structure: claim, reason, evidence, warrant. |
| Ethos [Greek= character] [Latin(credo)= i believe, to believe | an appeal to the credibility of the author. Is the author believable. |
