| Flashback | A scene that marks a break in the work to inform the reader |
| Image | A word or phrase that addresses the senses |
| Symbol | A person,object,image, or word that evokes a range of deep and additional meanings*Abstact* |
| Apostrophe | An address, to someone who is absent or to something nonhuman |
| Enjambment | When one line ends without pause and continues into the next line for meaning |
| Epic | An extended narrative poem |
| Hamartia | Misfortune for the hero |
| Hubris/Hybris | Excessive pride for the hero which leads to their downfall |
