KCA Figurative Language

QuestionAnswer
alliteration the repetition of consonant sounds, generally at the beginnings of words
analogy a comparison that shows similarities between two things that are otherwise dissimilar
allusion a reference to a well-known character, place, or situation from history, music, art, or another work of literature
flashback an interruption in the chronological order of a narrative to describe an event that happened earlier
foreshadowing an author’s use of clues or hints to prepare readers for events that will happen later in a story
hyperbole a figure of speech that uses exaggeration to express strong emotion, make a point, or evoke humor
