| flashback | an interruption in the chronological order of a narrative to describe an event that happened earlier |
| foreshadowing | an author’s use of clues or hints to prepare readers for events that will happen later in a story |
| hyperbole | a figure of speech that uses exaggeration to express strong emotion, make a point, or evoke humor |
