Cornice/Gable ends
carpentry vocab for exterior finish

| Barge Rafter | End rafter located on the gable roof end that becomes part of the overhang |
| Batten | Narrow strip of wood used to cover joints in vertical exterior siding |
| Bed Molding | Trim used where eaves meet the top of the outside walls |
| Cornice | Exterior trim along the interection of the roof and the top of a wall |
| Eave | Part of the roof that extends beyond the exterior wall line, (overhang) |
| False Fascia | A board that is attached to the tail of the rafters to straighten and space rafters that acts as a nailer (sub fascia) |
| Fascia | Horizontal trim at the tail end of roof rafters |
| Flush | even with; a continuous, unbroken surface |
| Frieze | trim attached to the cornice, where the soffit and wall siding meet |
| Lookout | Cantilevered support for a fly rafter or fascia |
| Lookout Ledger | wood band used to attach lookouts, level with the false fascia |
| Rake | Angle of slope or incline |
| Soffit | exposed underside of an overhang |
| Tail rafter | portion of a rafter that overhangs the plate and projects from the face of the wall |
