What is organizational behavior? The systematic study and application of knowledge about how individuals and groups act within the organizations where they work
What are the three levels of Analysis for organizational behavior? 1) Organization (culture), 2) Group (team dynamics communication, 3) Individual (employee personality, motivation, stress
What is Meta-analysis? Technique used to summarize what other researchers have found on a given topic
What is a laboratory study? Consists of manipulation groups and control groups. Determines causation rather than correlation. Very controlled conditions.
What are case studies? In depth description of a single company or industry. Involves a great deal of detail about the topic being studies.
What are surveys? One of the primary methods for collecting information for OB research.
What are field studies? Research conducted in actual organizations? Observations, interviews, surveys, experiments.
What is experimental design? A study having a group that receives a treatment and a comparison group that receives no treatment
What is a control group? A group that does not receive any experimental manipulation so it can be compared to a treatment group
What is a treatment group? A group that receives experimental manipulation
What is a lab study? Research conducted under controlled conditions and may include observations, interview, survey or experiments
What is generalizability? The likelihood that findings in a given study would be found in another setting or study
What is reliability? The consistency of measurement
What is validity? The truth of the measurement
What is correlation? Measures the strength of the relationship between two variables
What is causation? the act of making something happen
What is datum? The term that refers to a single observation
What is data? The term used to describe multiple observations and is always plural
What is employee engagement? A person who is fully involved in and enthusiastic about their work is engaged
What is the triple bottom line? Evaluating organizations against criteria for economic, social, and environmental viability
What is sustainable business practices? Practices that meet the current needs of businesses without compromising the needs of future generations
What is outsourcing? An organization asking an outside organization to perform functions that could have been performed by itself
What is offshoring? Refers to some or all of a business process being moved from one country to another country
