| What is a STANZA? | A group of lines that divide a poem into sections. |
| What is SOUND? | The way poets arrange words to create sounds they want the listener to here. |
| What is RHYME? | Rhyme is when two or more words have the same sound. |
| What is END RHYME? | A rhyme occurring at the end of two or more lines. |
| What are the five RHYME SCHEMES? | AAAA , ABAB , ABCB , ABBA , AABB |
| What is RHYTHM? | The pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in a line of poetry.It is often called the beat. |
| What is REPETITION? | When the poet repeats sound,words,phrases,or whole lines in a poem. |
| What is ALLITERATION? | The repetition of beginning consonant sound in words. |
| What is REFRAIN? | A phrase,verse,or group of verses repeated at intervals throughout a song or poem,especially at the end of each stanza. |
| What is IMAGERY? | Refers to words or phrases that appeal to the five sences |
| What is FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE? | Refers to words or phrases that appeal to the fine senses. |
| What is a SIMILE? | A comparison of two different things using like,as,or than. |
| What is a METAPHOR? | A comparison of two different things that does not use words like,as,or than. |
| What is a HYPERBOLE? | An exaggeration that something has much more or much less of a quantity than it actually has. |
| What is ONOMATOPOEIA? | The use of a word whose sound makes you think of it's meaning. |
| What is PERSONIFICATION? | Giving human qualities to ideas,characters or animals. |
