Advocacy[for the client] expresses & defends the cause of another. It's a professional & public effort. the client should have access to healthcare to meet their needs,has a right to make choices & has a right to the nurse-client relationship based on trust,collaboration
a high level of wellness= illness= an ongoing process towards the highest potential functioning. =the presence of disease, disharmony among "parts" and a reponse to stress
Wellness-Illness continuum[model]= like a see-saw, to the left is dead & to the right is highest level of wellness. ppl move along it throughout life
Health Belief[model on pg. 70]= perceptions influence whether or not a person takes action&what action they take.modifying factors influence perceptions.[ppl have different perceptions on their health,how hard someone trys 2 b healthy can change their perspective on how healthy they are
Transtheoretical Model= modifying a preoblem behavior to acquire a positive behavior.[model became popular through drug rehab]
Transtheoretical Model Assumptions[1-4]= Change happens in stages[unfreeze,change,refreeze]. Change takes place in a certain order of stages. Completion of one stage promotes reaching the others. Factors specific to each stage promote adoption.
Transtheoretical Model Assumptions[5-6]= The stage specific factors can be movilized thru intervention methods. Relapse is possible from each stage.[the more you succeed in one thing, the more you will succeed in the future, have reinforcements & rewards to help ppl change & reach their goals]
Transtheoretical Model Stages[1-4]= Precontemplation[no attempt to change]. Comtemplation[aware of problem & thinking]. Preparation[intend to take action in the next month(may have tried & failed in the past)]. Action[modify behavior, envirtonment & experiences.
Transtheoretical Model Stages[5]= Maintenance[work to prevent relapse and consolidate the gains made]. Ppl need to know that it's ok to fail, just need to try again. Ppl trying to change need support
LAW: Constitutional, Statutory, Administrative, Common Consitutional[the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Patients Bill of Rights & State Constitutions]. Statutory[Federal and State laws]. Administrative[State Statutes and Administrative Agencies]. Common[Court Decisions or Case Law](ex. gene patening)
Public and Civil Law= Public=concerned w/ laws that deal w/ relationships btwn individuals & the government agencies. criminal law is an important segment. Civil[private]=concerned w/ relationships btwn private individuals.
Torts: Negligence(common law claim), Malpractice(professional liability, Abandoment Negligence=a broad term for abandoment and can result in malpractice. Malpractice=you need to have a duty,not carry out that duty,the patient has an injury & it's the nurses fault for not carrying out the duty. Abandoment=ex. leaving ppl behind to drown.
Torts: Assault, Battery, False Imprisonment, Invasion of privacy, Libel & Slander, Fraud Assault=a threat of harm. Battery=when you physically harm someone. False Imprisonment=restraining someone against their will. Invasion of Privacy=HIPPAA. Libel & Slander=talking bad about a patient. Fraud=when you say you have credentials you don't have.
Protective and Reporting:Federal & State Federal=child abuse,prevention & treatment act,privacy act[parent can't see students grades],HIPAA.State=age of consent,privileged communication,abortion,good samaritan acts[stop &help @ accident],involuntary hospitalization[72hr hold],advanced directives
5 skills for Management= you have to have resource utilization, planning,problem solving, delegation, and navigating change...these all revolve around communicating
5 Rights [skills] for Delegating= you have to give the right task[one that is "easy"],has to be the right circumstances[proper setting, etc],the right person[one who is suited for the task],the right communication[give + & - feedback],right supervision[you should be checking on them]
