Body Mechanics terms

| dorsal recumbent postion | the back lying or supine position |

| fowlers postition | a semi sitting postion the head is raised between 45-90 degrees. |
| friction | th erubbing of one surfaces against another |
| gait belt | a transfer belt |
| lateral position | the side laying position |
| logrolling | turnung the person as a unit |
| posture | body allignment |
| prone postition | lying on the abdomen with the head turned to one side |
| reverse tredelenburgs position | the head of the bed is raised 30 degrees or the head of the bed is raised 15 degrees or the head of the bed is raised 30 degrees and the knee portion is raised 15 degrees |
| semi fowlers position | the head of the bed is raised 30 degrees and the knee portion is raised 30 degrees or the head of the bed is raised 15 degrees |
| shearing | when skin sticks to a surface while muscules slide in the direction the body is moving |
| side lying position | the lateral position |
| sims postion | a left side lying position in which the leg is sharply flexed so its not on the lower leg and the lower arm is benind the person |
| supine position | the back lying or dorsal recumbent positons |
| transfer belt | a belt used to support persons who are unsteady or disabled a gait belt |
| trendelenburgs position | the head of the bed is lower than the foot of the bed. |
| Coma | a state of being unaware of ones surrondings and being unable to react or respound to people. |
| disaster | a sudden catastrophic event in which many people are injured and killed and property is destroyed. |
| electrical shock | when electrical current passes through the body |
| ground | that which carries leaking electricity to the earth and away from an electrical item. |
| hazardous substance | any chemical in the workplace that can cause harm |
| hemiplagia | paralysis of one side of the body |
| paraplegia | paralysis from the waist down. |
| quadriplegia | paralysis of the neck down. |
| suffocation | when breathign stops from the lack of oxygen |
| workplace violence | violent acts directed toward persons at work or while on duty. |
