Completing the Square Process of writing a quadratic equation so one side is a perfect square trinomial
x^2+6x+ __1*__ +7- __2*__ 1* +(6/2)^2 2* -(6/2)^2
ax^2 +bx +c=0 a(x+d)^2 +e=0 also d=b/2a and e=c -b^2/4a
+/- 4 is read as plus or minus 4 Shorthand for +4 and -4
Steps to solving one: If coefficient of x^2 is 1 then go to step two but if not then divide both sides by coefficent two: Isolate all variable terms on on side 3: add the square of the coefficient of x to both sides 4:factor 5:square root to solve for x
x^2 +bx+(b/2)^2=? (x+b/2)^2
