| integer | The set of whole numbers and their opposites {… -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 …} |
| absolute value | the distance from x to the origin on the number line; never less than zero because it represents distance |
| whole number | Non-negative integers {0, 1, 2, 3 …} |
| negative | A number less than zero |
| positive | A number greater than zero |
| zero pair | A positive and negative number whose sum is zero |
| additive inverse | the number which when added to another number equals zero |
| even integer | An integer that is a multiple of 2 {…-4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6…} |
| odd integer | Any integer that, when divided by 2, does not have an integer as the quotient |
| order of operations | the rules followed when evaluating expressions with more than one operation |
