QuestionAnswer
WHAT IA AN ATOM? the smallest particle of an element that retains all the properties of that element.
WHAT IS AN ISOTOPE? atoms of the same element with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons.
WHAT IS A NEUTRON? a neutral subatomic particle in an atoms nucleus that has mass nearly equal to that of a proton.
WHAT IS A WAVELENGTH? the shortest distance between equivalent points on a continuous wave.
WHAT IS FREQUENCY? the number of waves that pass a given point per second.
WHAT IS AMPLITUDE? the height of a wave from the origin to a crest, or from the origin to a trough.
WHAT IS QUANTUM? the minimum amount of energy that can be gained or lost by an atom.
WHAT IS A PHOTON? a particle of electromagnetic radiation with no mass that carries a quantum of energy.
WHAT IS RADIOACTIVITY? the process in which some substances spontaneously emit radiation.
