| either-or-choice | a way to try and simplify an argument by sayung that only two possibilities are effective |
| slippery slope | suggestion that one event or circumstance will precipitate a more drastic and exaggerated outcome |
| sentiment appeal | showing an emotional picture to distract readers from facts- focus extensively on heart |
| bandwagon appeal | argument that urges people to follow the same path everyone seems to be accepting |
| appeal to false authority | when a writer offers himself, or the question people, as an authority on a subject and usues that as main credits for an argument |
| dogmatism | assuming a position is the only valid postion as it predominately accepted in a culture |
| ad hominem | attacks on the character of a person rather than the claims that person makes |
| hasty generalization | a conclusion drawn from faulty causality- my x does this so all x's must do this |
| faulty causality | assuming incorrectly that one event was definitely caused by a first event |
| begging the question | claim that is made on grounds that cannot be accepted as true because those grounds are the thing being questioned for truth |
| non sequitur | argument in which claims/reasons/warrants fail to connect logically, one point has no connection to another |
| faulty analogy | going too far in drawing a story to make a comparison for serious point |
