QuestionAnswer
Asyndeton Lack of conjunctions between coordinate phrases, clauses or words.
Oxymoron Apparent paradox achieved by the juxtapostion of words which seem to contradict one another.
Chiasmus Two corresponding pairs arranged not in parallels but in inverted order.
Polysyndeton The repittion of conjunctions in a series of coordinate words, phrases or clauses.
Syllepsis The use of a word with two others with each of which it is understood differently.
Anaphora The reptition of a word of phrase at the beginning of a successive phrases, clauses or lines.
Antistrophe Repetition of the same word of phrase at the end of sucessive clauses.
Simile A comparison using like or as.
Personification Attribute of personality to an impersonal thing.
Cacophony Harsh joining of sounds.
