What is the slow motion frame rate? More than 24 FPS
What is the TV equivalent of 24 FPS? 23.98 FPS
What is Focal Length? The size of the lens in mm
What is Focus Distance? The distance from film plane to critical focus in feet
What is F-Stop? Size of the iris opening that determines the amount of light let in
What is the focal length for a normal lens? 50 mm
What is the focal length for a wide lens? Less than 50 mm
What is the focal length for a long lens? More than 50 mm
How do wide angle lenses effect depth of field and space? Increase depth of field and decompress space
What are examples we watched in class of a wide angle lense? Hot Shots and Citizen Kanes
How do telephoto/long angle lenses effect depth of field and space? Decrease depth of field and compress space
What are examples we watched in class of a telephoto/long angle lense? Graduate and Stand by Me
What are the two types of lenses? Prime and Zoom
What is the key difference between a prime and zoom lense? Prime lenses have fixed focal lengths while Zoom lenses have adjustable

What is a Dolly? Moving the camera on a track or wheeled appartus
What is a Tracking? A type of dolly shot that follows alongside the subject
Why are a Zoom and a Dolly not the same thing? Zoom changes the focal length while a Dolly physically changes the cameras position
What does Shutter control? It controls the amount of time that the film/sensor is exposed to light
How is Shutter Speed measured? In fractions of a second
What could motion is seen when you set your shutter to double your FPS? Smooth/Normal
What is the Iris ring and what does it do? Controls the size of your lens aperture and how much light is coming in
What is the size of aperture measured in? F-Stops
What are the common F-Stops? 1.0, 1.4, 2.0, 2.8, 4.0, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22, and 32

What is "Opening Up"? Moving to the lower end of the F-Stop scale
What is "Close Down"? Moving to the higher end of the F-Stop scale

What is the Plane of Critical Focus? Distance at which an object will be totally in focus
What is the One-Third/Two-Thirds Rule? DOF extends roughly 1/3 in front of critical focus plane and 2/3 beyond
What are three things that affect your DOF? Focal Length, F-Stop, and Focus Distance
What is a jump cut? A jarring edit between two clips that are too similar
What are two ways to avoid a jump cut? Change the image size and/or change the angle 30 degrees or more
What is the 180 line? Imaginary line between subjects that you use to determine/maintain screen direction
What are the four ways to cross the 180 line? Cross the line within the shot with the camera, have a shot on the line in between shots, have subjects cross the line within the shot, and use a cutaway
