Atmosphere

What are the layers of the atmosphere (in order)? Troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere,thermosphere
What is the Troposphere? Where all the weather occurs, closest to earth.
What is the temp in the Troposphere?Why? Cool as you gain altitude, the surface of the earth is the heat source
What is the Stratosphere? Contains the ozone layer, 2nd layer.
What is the temp in the Stratosphere?Why? Absorbs uv radiation and releases heat upwards so as you gain altitude its warm.
What is the Mesosphere? 3rd layer
What's the Mesosphere's temp and why? Temp decreased because there's fewer gases to absorb energy
What's the Thermosphere? Highest layer, where the Aurora borealis/Northern lights occur, absorbs most intense radiation from the sun.
What's the Thermosphere's temp?Why? the temp is high because the gasses move quickly but there are very few molecules so it feels cold.
Whats a constant component? There is always the same volume of air.
What percentage of the atmosphere is Nitrogen gas? 78%
What percentage of the atmosphere is oxygen? 21%
