| irrational numbers | can not be written as fractions, non-repeating and non-terminating decimals, and non perfect squares |
| like terms | terms whose variables and exponents are the same |
| coefficient | the number in front of a variable; multiplying the variable |
| variable | an unknown quantity represented by a letter |
| less than or equal to | maximum; at most; is not more than; is not greater than |
| greater than or equal to | minimum; at least; is not less than; is not smaller than |
| y-intercept | the point where a line crosses the y-axis; the y-value when x is zero |
| slope | a ratio of the change in y values over the change in x values; rise over run |
| function | a relationship in which each input (x) has one output (y); no repeating x |
| positive slope | increasing from left to right |
| undefined slope | vertical line; equation on has x equals a number; x=3 |
| constant | a fixed value or number that does not change in an expression, equation, or formula |
| perfect square | a number that can be expressed as a the product of an integer and itself |
| direct variation | a proportional relationship; the slope is the constant of proportionality; y=kx |
