EarthandEnergMovment

latitude/longitude tectonic motion on the earths crust.

QuestionAnswer
Convergent boundaries- When 2 plates move TOWARD each other.
What do Convergent Boundaries cause? Subduction Zones, deep sea trenches,Mountain building, earth quakes and volcanoes.
What's a Subduction Zone? Caused by convergent boundaries is where one plate slides under another
What type of collision are Deep sea trenches? Ocean continent(O-C)
What collisions are mountain building? Continent Continent(C-C
Divergent boundaries- When 2 plates move away from each other
What does Divergent Boundaries cause? Seafloor Spreading and the mid Atlantic ridge
What's the longest mountain chain on earth? The Mid Atlantic Ridge
Transform boundries- When 2 plates slide past each other moving in dif directions.
What can Transform Boundaries cause? Transform faults, earthquakes and the sand Andreas fault in Cal.
Whats a fault that occurs at a transform boundary. San Andreas fault in cal
How does earth generate heat? Friction and Decay of radioactive elements.
How does Friction generate heat for the earth? Friction As liquide parts of the core move around as the earth/moon/sun move in the solar system generate heat ig
What are the spheres? Geosphere, Hydrosphere,Atmosphere,Bosphere
Which of the layers is thickest? Which are the thinnest? Atmosphere is the thickest and biosphere and hydrosphere are the smallest
What's the Geosphere? The solid part of the earth: including rocks, minerals and land forms that make up a planets surface and interior.
What order do the basic layers of the earth go in? Crust-Upper mantle-lower mantle-outercore-inner core
What does latitude measure? The distance away from the equator
What are latitude lines also called? Parallels
What latitudes are colder an hotter. Low latitude=hot high=cold
what is the outermost shell that is shaped into tectonic plates. lithosphere.
what's is the asthenosphere? A solid plastic layer of mantle rock that flows slowly, allowing tectonic plates to move on top of it.
what is the inner core A dense sphere of solid nickel and iron at the earths center, kept solid by immense pressure
what's the mantle the layer between the crust and the core, making up -68% of Earth's mass, made of medium density, iron rich materials.
How do the lithosphere and asthenosphere differ? .lithosphere is above the asthenosphere. Lisosphere is also made of tectonic plates and asthenosphere is made of mantle rock
Lithosphere Includes the crust and upper part of the mantle
Asthenosphere Between the mesosphere and lithosphere made of rock that flows very slowly underneath tectonic plates
Mesosphere Between asthenosphere and the outer core (lower mantle?)

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
