QuestionAnswer
Prokaryotes include: -archaea and bacteria -contained by semipermeable cell membrane instead of cell wall -unicellur
Bacteria cell exterior - can have peptidoglycan layer, capsule, etc
Bacteria nucleoid
Bacteria plasmids
Lysosome -protein recycling -large molecule digester
Receptor mediated mytosis particles bind to receptors on membrane; membrane pinches off to for an endocytic vesicle; vesicle drops off cargo to an early endosome; pH is lowered by proton pumps; matures in late endosome; acid hydrolasis deposited and makes full lysomoe
Phagocytosis recycling materials from outside; membrane engulfs and makes smaller particles which make phagosomes; phagosome to lysosome
Autophagy digests large organelles; autophagosome forms and fuses with a lysosome
Vacuuole -storage centers for plants, fungi, and other euk. -Sometimes digest -store H2O, ions e.g: seeds (proteins), pigments (flowers), noxious compounds
Peroxisomes -site of oxidation rxns -globular organelles in euk. -originate from the ER; specialized enzymes from cytosal -center for redox rxns -produces H2O2 to make catalase
Mitochondrial -make ATP; have 2 membranes (outer and inner); inner membrane folds into sacs called cristal; within this space is also mitochondrial matrix -very dynamic; prone to fusion and fission -own mt DNA -grow independently -manufactor canribosomes
Chloroplasts -site of photosynthesis -3 membranes; innermost membrane has flattened sacs (thylakoids); surrounding thylakoids is the stroma -also have their own DNA and grow independently
Endosymbiosis theory -suggests mito. chlorop. were once free bacteria
Nuclear envelope -seperates rest of cell from nucleus -perforated w/ pores; nuclear pore complex; 30 different proteins -regulates in bound traffic; nucleoside tri-phosphates; proteins TLC + TC

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
