| Migration | The movement of animals from one place to another, often to find food, reproduce or reach a more suitable climate. |
| Adaption | An inherited trait or behavior that helps an organism survive and reproduce in its environment. |
| Habitat | Where an organism lives. |
| Natural Selection | The process in which organisms with helpful inherited traits are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing the traits to the offspring. |
| Hypothesis | A possible explanation or prediction that can be tested through investigation or evidence. |
| Varitation | Differences in traits among individuals of the same species, such as size, color, or speed. |
| Species | A group of similar organisms that can reproduce with one another and produce fertile offspring. |
| Evolve | To change inherited traits over many generations. |
| Population | All the members of the same species living in the same area at the same time. |
| Predator | An animal that hunts and eats other species. |
| Prey | An animal that is hunted and eaten by a predator. |
| Environment | All the living and nonliving things around an organism that affect its life. |
| Evolution | The change in inherited traits of populations over many generations. |
| Decomposers | Organisms, such as fungi and many bacteria, that break down dead organisms and waste, returning nutrients to the environment. |
| Extinction | The permanent disappearance of s species when all of its members have died. |
| Climate | The usual pattern of weather in a place over a long period of time. |
| Hibernate | To spend a period in a state of greatly reduced activity and energy use, often during cold weather when food is limited. |
| Biomes | Large regions of Earth with similar climates and typical plants and animals, such as deserts, grasslands, and tundra. |
| Fitness (In natural selection.) | How well an organism survives and reproduces in its environment, passing its inherited traits to the next generation. |
